Luisa Dunn

Wrapping + Posing in Nests and Circular Props

Luisa will demo her two different wrapping and styling techniques used when creating elaborate nest and round prop setups in-session and then simplified by shooting for planned post-session composites.

Both techniques are useful in planning for a smooth and efficient session workflow especially when babies are fussy and unsettled.

Learn how introducing digitally creative elements to your session workflow also allows for expanding client galleries and providing additional styling choices to clients without blowing your client/session time budget.

Luisa will also demonstrate how to achieve multiple wrapped looks with one base wrap and one overlay.

Working with Assistants

In this video, Rachel covers what you need to know when working with an assistant (and why it’s important).

Even if you don’t have an assistant today, after this session you’ll have the information you need on how to hire and train one when the time comes – and it may come sooner than you think – especially once you see how having an assistant with prop posing can shave off time in a session!

Imagine what your sessions (and session prep + clean-up) could look like when you bring someone on your team.

Capturing Emotion in Newborn Sessions

In this presentation, Kristen will be discussing the importance of emotional connection in newborn portraiture.

Why it matters, what to look for, how to capture it and how you can increase the emotional power of your imagery.

Imagery that not only feeds us as creatives and artists, but our clients also.

Let’s push beyond the boundaries of expectation and see how we can connect with photographs on a different level to what we may be used to.

First retreat experience with us?

Here’s how it works…

The online retreat works much like an in-person retreat would, except that the sessions happen online (and you don’t have to travel anywhere!).

A bunch of super-talented photographers present their expertise on a wide range of topics via videos, that you can download and keep forever.

The retreat kicks off on Jan 31st, 2017 and we’ll release videos each morning over the 3 days.

The videos aren’t live, so you don’t have to “show up” at a specific time (so it works for all time-zones and all kinds of work schedules! We understand you are busy!)

You’ll also receive an invite to our BONUS* private Retreat Facebook group where teachers will be answering questions for 2 weeks (until Feb 14th), and the group then remains open so you keep receiving support and advice from your fellow students.

Teacher videos will range from 25-75 minutes. Some will be video footage of the instructor in action showing specific posing and wrapping techniques, while other topics will be presented in a slideshow or screenshare format.

These are not professionally filmed, so if that’s a deal breaker for you, please wait for a future retreat!

But if you’re ready to walk away feeling inspired with your newborn sessions, we would LOVE to have you join us!

Frequently Asked Questions

No! You can watch on your own schedule!
Nope! In fact, each presenter will be creating/filming their own presentation which might be a slideshow presentation, a video of them in their office, studio or on location showing you some posing. You will enjoy a jam-packed event with info, tips and inspiration to help you with your newborn photography (but it won’t be up for any videography awards, so if that’s a deal breaker for you, give this a pass until a future retreat)
Yes – you can download the videos so you have them for life – and you’ll be able to able to access the info on our private Retreat website until Dec 2017.
We’ll be hosting a bonus Facebook group. Please note, this pop-up community is a bonus – not a paid part of the Newborn Retreat experience. To participate, there is a set of community guidelines to follow (basically – be awesome!), but those who are not awesome, will be asked to leave.
Lots of new speakers and new topics! At the end of the day, only you know if you could use a little more guidance or inspiration when it comes to your newborn photography. If you don’t, carry on being your awesome self! If you could use a little boost of inspiration and motivation and you want to refine a few things, we would love to have you join us!
Yes! While it isn’t a A-Z guide to newborns, we also know that new and aspiring newborn photographers will really enjoy it and take away a lot of great info. If you are completely new, you may also wish to check out “Beyond the Beanbag: our complete guide to newborns”
Our super-early-bird sale is on Nov 1 – 7th. We don’t have additional discounts as we are working with new teachers at each retreat. We do, however, have alumni discounts on our Milky Way classes – Illuminate + Beyond the Beanbag.
YES! But for a limited time! Click here to sign up to get instant access.
Sorry friends, tickets are non-refundable. We DO know you will get your money’s worth in value but if you have any hesitation, wait for the feedback from attendees, and join us at a later date (but the early-bird sale will be over).
If you choose the payment plan, your first payment will come out when you register. The next payment will automatically come out in 30 days (using the same method of payment you use to register – ie: Paypal or Credit Card). You WILL get full access to the retreat experience – you do not have to wait until the second payment is made (because we know you are awesome and will complete that second payment!)
If you have the good fortune of living in Canada, then yes, there will be GST and/or HST charged. We know tax can seem like a bummer, but think of all the wonderful things it provides….free healthcare tops our list!
